«Вона бере його фото й каже: “Я сплю з татом”», — тихо додає мама захисника.Сергій Сергієнко з Глухівщини не був кадровим військовим і до повномасштабної війни працював на цивільній посаді. Та коли отримав повістку, одразу сказав рідним: ховатися не стане. У 2023 році він опинився на Донеччині, а згодом — на Луганському напрямку, де під час важких боїв зник безвісти. Майже рік родина жила надією, що він живий. Згодом експертиза ДНК підтвердила загибель захисника. Спогадами про Сергія поділилися його мати та брат.

Любив риболовлю і працю руками

Сергій народився у селі Некрасове. З дитинства був активним і працьовитим: грав у футбол та волейбол, любив коней, допомагав по господарству. Особливе місце в його житті займала риболовля.

«Усе, що стосувалося рибалки, його дуже захоплювало. Постійно щось купував, їздив на водойми. Це була його справжня віддушина», — згадує мама Любов Приходько.

Ще одним захопленням була робота з деревом і металом. Сергій любив щось майструвати, робити власноруч. Після школи вступив до профтехучилища, де здобув одразу кілька будівельних спеціальностей.

«Він був дуже старанним. Навіть подяку мені з училища передавали за його навчання», — каже мама.

Після навчання Сергій працював у будівельній сфері, а згодом займався бурінням свердловин. У Глухові він познайомився з майбутньою дружиною Яною. Разом вони прожили багато років і виховували доньку Лізу.

«Ховатися не буду»

Повномасштабне вторгнення родина зустріла у Глухові. Після перших вибухів Сергій вивіз дружину й доньку до села, але невдовзі вони повернулися додому.

У грудні 2022 року чоловіка мобілізували до Національної гвардії України. Спочатку він проходив службу на Сумщині, а згодом разом із підрозділом вирушив на Донеччину.

«Він одразу сказав: “Я ховатися не буду”. Просто прийняв це рішення і пішов служити», — розповідає мати.

Перед відправленням на фронт родина востаннє бачила його наприкінці червня 2023 року.

«Він телефонував і казав, що все добре. А я чула вибухи у слухавці. Питаю: “Що там у вас?”, а він відповідає: “Тут тихо не буває”», — згадує жінка.

«Аби тільки Ліза мене пам’ятала»

На фронті Сергій нечасто виходив на зв’язок, тому кожен дзвінок був особливим. Найбільше він сумував за донькою.

Одного разу він подзвонив рідним по відеозв’язку. Поруч була маленька Ліза.

«Він питав, як у неї справи, що вона їла, як минув день. А наприкінці донька сказала: “Я тебе люблю”. Після розмови син заплакав і сказав мені: “Аби тільки Ліза мене пам’ятала”», — ділиться мама.

Тоді ж Сергій говорив, що сподівається у серпні приїхати додому й допомогти дружині з операцією.

«Там було пекло»

У ніч на 12 липня Сергій востаннє зателефонував рідним. Сказав, що вони виходять на позиції.

«Було чути голоси хлопців, метушню. Він говорив, що їдуть одинадцятеро людей. Сказав: “Не знаю, як виберемось”», — пригадує мама.

Після цього зв’язок зник.

За кілька днів родині повідомили, що Сергій зник безвісти. Близькі до останнього сподівалися, що він міг потрапити до лікарні або полону.

Брат Олексій згадує: Сергій майже не розповідав про фронт, але одного разу все ж коротко зізнався, наскільки там важко.

«Я зрозумів тільки одне — там було справжнє пекло», — каже він.

До кінця залишився на позиції

Майже через рік родина отримала підтвердження загибелі захисника після збігу ДНК.

З матеріалів розслідування стало відомо: під час ворожого обстрілу більшість побратимів Сергія загинули. Його ж бачили живим ще кілька годин потому — він продовжував тримати оборону.

«Коли почався штурм і пролунала команда відходити, він сказав: “Я нікуди не піду”», — розповідає мама.

Сергій Сергієнко загинув 12 липня 2023 року поблизу Кузьминого на Луганщині. Йому був 31 рік.

Рідні згадують його як людину, яка завжди приходила на допомогу й ніколи не відступала. А шестирічна донька Ліза досі засинає поруч із фотографією тата.

“She takes his photo and says, ‘I’m sleeping with Daddy,’” the soldier’s mother adds quietly. Serhiy Serhienko, from the Hlukhiv region, was not a career soldier and had been working in a civilian role before the full-scale war broke out. But when he received his call-up papers, he immediately told his family he would not go into hiding. In 2023, he found himself in the Donetsk region, and later in the Luhansk sector, where he went missing during heavy fighting. For almost a year, the family clung to the hope that he was alive. Eventually, DNA testing confirmed the defender’s death. His mother and brother shared their memories of Serhiy.

He loved fishing and working with his hands

Serhiy was born in the village of Nekrasove. From childhood, he was active and hard-working: he played football and volleyball, loved horses, and helped out on the farm. Fishing held a special place in his life.

“Everything to do with fishing fascinated him. He was always buying something or heading out to the lakes. It was his real escape,” recalls his mother, Lyubov Prykhodko.

Another passion of his was working with wood and metal. Serhiy loved making things, crafting things with his own hands. After school, he enrolled in a vocational college, where he qualified in several construction trades.

“He was very hard-working. They even sent me a thank-you note from the college for his studies,” says his mother.

After finishing his studies, Serhiy worked in the construction industry, and later got into well drilling. In Hlukhiv, he met his future wife, Yana. They lived together for many years and raised their daughter, Liza.

“I won’t be hiding”

The family was in Hlukhiv when the full-scale invasion began. After the first explosions, Serhiy took his wife and daughter to a village, but they soon returned home.

In December 2022, he was called up to the Ukrainian National Guard. He initially served in the Sumy region, and later went to the Donetsk region with his unit.

“He said straight away: ‘I won’t be hiding’. He simply made that decision and went off to serve,” says his mother.

The family last saw him at the end of June 2023, before he was sent to the front.

“He phoned and said everything was fine. But I could hear explosions in the receiver. I asked, ‘What’s going on over there?’, and he replied, ‘It’s never quiet here’,” the woman recalls.

“As long as Lisa remembers me”

Serhiy rarely got in touch from the front, so every call was special. He missed his daughter most of all.

Once he called his family via video call. Little Lisa was there with him.

“He asked how she was, what she’d eaten, how her day had gone. And at the end, his daughter said: ‘I love you.’ After the call, my son burst into tears and said to me: ‘If only Lisa remembers me,’” his mother shares.

At the time, Serhiy also said he hoped to come home in August to help his wife with her operation.

“It was hell there”

On the night of 12 July, Serhiy phoned his family for the last time. He said they were heading out to their positions.

“You could hear the lads’ voices, the commotion. He said there were eleven of them going. He said: ‘I don’t know how we’ll get out of this’,” his mother recalls.

After that, contact was lost.

A few days later, the family were told that Serhiy was missing in action. His loved ones held out hope until the very end that he might have been taken to hospital or captured.

His brother Oleksiy recalls: Serhiy hardly ever spoke about the front line, but once he did briefly admit just how difficult it was there.

“I understood only one thing — it was a real hell there,” he says.

He remained at his post until the end

Almost a year later, the family received confirmation of the defender’s death following a DNA match.

The investigation revealed that during enemy shelling, most of Serhiy’s comrades were killed. He, however, was seen alive several hours later — he continued to hold his position.

“When the assault began and the order to retreat was given, he said: ‘I’m not going anywhere’,” his mother recounts.

Serhiy Serhiienko was killed on 12 July 2023 near Kuzmyn in the Luhansk region. He was 31 years old.

His family remember him as someone who always came to the rescue and never backed down. And his six-year-old daughter, Liza, still falls asleep next to a photograph of her dad.
